Feb 17 - WA - Washington Carpet Stewardship Bill Dies
Recently, Washington's proposed carpet recycling legislation died without a hearing in the state Senate's Ways and Means Committee.
The measure would have required carpet manufacturers to develop, operate and finance a program to comprehensively manage end-of-life carpet generated in Washington.
Carpet is a significant waste problem because it comprises 2.9% of all waste disposed in Washington and is bulky and difficult to manage at landfills. In addition, carpet is made primarily from petroleum, so it has a large greenhouse gas footprint.
So far, only California has a product stewardship bill for carpet.
