Dec 15 - NY - Gov Paterson Signs Rechargeable Battery Take Back Law

New York Governor Paterson signed the Rechargeable Battery Bill into law on December 13, 2010. The new law requires manufacturers to finance the collection and recycling of rechargeable batteries. Manufacturers are also responsible for advertising of the program and reporting on the progress of the program.

Manufacturers will have 90 days from the signing of the new law on December 13. 2010 to submit a collection and recycling plan to DEC. Retailers are required to accept batteries for recycling 180 days from that date.
