Update: Jun 17, 2011 - TX - Texas Adds Television to E-waste Recycling Law
Governor Perry signed the Manufacturer Responsibility and Consumer Convenience Computer Equipment Collection and Recovery Act (HB 2714) in June 2007.
Effective September 1, 2008, manufacturers of electronic devices are required to pay for collection, transportation, and recycling of covered devices and can set up their own recycling take back program.
Texas Campaign for the Environment reports that Texans recycled 15,247,207 pounds of computer equipment in 2009. In 2010, this increased to 24,370,894 pounds or .97 lbs per capita.
Details
Enforcement will begin September 1, 2008, when producers will have to pay for collection, transportation, and recycling of the covered devices below. This list does not include televisions at this time, and no level of service is mandated. Manufacturers of computers must have proper labeling for recovery, or they will face a penalty.
Disposal Ban
Currently, the law does not include a disposal ban.
