Details

Enacts bottle bill.  Covers all containers except milk, unmixed wine, and spirits.  Deposit of 5 cents starting 2013.  Redemption centers will be created to collect the containers.  Manufacturers pay recovery fee to OK Tax Commission:  1/4 cent per container from 1/1/11 to 12/31/11; 1/2 cent from 1/1/12 to 12/31/12; 1 cent from 1/1/13 forward.

Oklahoma Bottle Bill Bottle Bill: SB 1896

SB 1896 would establish a bottle bill in Oklahoma.

SB 1896 was referred to Appropriations Committee on Feb 2.

Details

SB 1896 requires a $0.05 deposit be paid for beer, soft drinks, carbonated and noncarbonated water, including flavored water, tea and coffee, juice, wine coolers, in glass, plastic, aluminum or bimetal containers less than 2 litters.  Deposit excludes milk, wine and liquor.  Distributors must pay a processing fee to be phased in as follows  :One-quarter of one cent (0.25¢) per deposit beverage container from October 1, 2010-March 31, 2012; one-half of one cent (0.5¢) per deposit beverage container from April 1, 2012-December 31, 2012; one cent (1¢) per deposit beverage container after January 1, 2013.
