North Carolina Bottle Bill Campaign: SB 641

Summary

SB 641 would establish a bottle bill in New Hampshire.

The bill would cover all bottles 50 ml to 4 liters and would enforce a ten cent deposit per bottle that consumers can redeem at their retailer or redemption centers.

SB 641 would create a redemption center in every convenience zone, and manufacturers would have to pay the state the refund value for every container purchased. The money collected by the state from the manufacturers would go to a fund litter reduction programs. Furthermore, every five years, the state can increase the redeemable deposit by five cents for every container that has less than a 75% recycling rate.

Status

Referred to the Committee on Commerce on 3/19/2009, SB 641 did not pass through the Senate on time, so the bill is now inactive. There are plans to reintroduce the bill in 2011.
