Minnesota E-waste Law
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty signed HF 854 on May 9, 2007, which provides free recycling of covered electronic devices for consumers. Under this law, manufacturers of covered electronic devices must register with the state, pay a registration fee and set up an e-waste recycling program starting August 2007.
HF 1648/SF1486 (2009) was signed into law and makes changes to sales reporting and manufacturer pound credits under existing electronics recycling law.
Details
Manufacturers must meet specified recycling goals, including 60 percent of the weight of covered electronic devices sold in the state by July 2008, and 80 percent each year thereafter. Manufacturers must disclose if devices sold exceed the maximum RohS level for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium.
Disposal Ban
There is a disposal ban in place for electronic product containing a cathode-ray tube.
Covered Devices: TVs, computer monitors, laptops. however, manufacturers can chose to collect other electronic devices such as computers, printers, scanners, and other computer peripherals.
