Bottle Bill Law in Arizona

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Legislation was introduced in Arizona in 2008, but was never passed into law.  HB 2760 (Sinema) would have covered all beverages, and provided for a 1-cent "incentive payment" to consumers who delivered empty containers directly to redemption centers.  Under the proposed legislation, consumers would have been able to return empty beverage containers to retailers if there was no nearby redemption center.

In 2010, SB 2744 (Mason) was introduced, which would have put a surchage on bottled water.  The legislation proposed a deposit of 5 cents per individual bottle of water sold, 0.5% of the price of multi-bottle packages, and a 5 cent deposit per gallon of water dispensed into customer bottles or delivered to customers in bottles.  The legislation failed to pass out of the Committee on Water and Energy, however, and died on February 25, 2010.

There is currently no bottle bill in Arizona.
